Gulmarg Snow Report 23-01-2015
January 23 20151 cm in the last 24 hrs, and a total depth at our snow plot in the village of 30 cm (due to the settlement from yesterday).
Although it does not sound like much, there has been considerably more blown into the trees (and building a base) while there will be plenty more on the upper mountain. The patrol did avalanche control from the top of the chairlift yesterday and were reporting over a meter of wind blown storm snow at 3500 mtrs and we would expect more at the top. Due to the strong winds with the storm, the mid mountain bench did not catch too much snow and is still marginal.
It is mainly clear at the moment so we have a decent view of the upper mountain and there are definitely many more options for rock free skiing up there than there was before the storm. The chairlift is expected to open today once the patrol has finished their control work from the top of the gondola.
Although the cover is still far from perfect there will be some good turns to be had up there.
Cheers Bill.
