Gulmarg Snow Report Feb 21 2019
February 21 2019The Report
We measure and record the snowfall and depth every day at 7 am however it is unlikely that the report will be published each day. I will try to get it out as often as possible but sometimes the internet is not very reliable and other times I am just too busy getting ready to ski powder with our guests. However I should be able to get one out soon after each significant event so hopefully it will still give you some idea of what to expect when you arrive in Gulmarg.
The season so far.
Significant early snow graced the mountains in November and December to give us the best January base in many years. This has been followed up by consistent moderate to heavy falls since mid-January and the forecast hints that the storms are going to continue for the short term at least.
The Snow Plot.
Our Snow Plot at the Highland Park Hotel sits at 2,700 metres so the amount of fresh snow recorded in the Gulmarg basin is only an indication of what has fallen on the upper mountain. The higher elevation and exposure to wind can sometimes triple the amount that we record in the village. And the base depth recorded at the hotel can also be roughly tripled as you move up the mountain to 4,000 metres.
Thursday Feb 21 – Snow Report
24 hours – 29 cm
7 Days – 83 cm
Base Depth – 213 cm
The Weather – It is still snowing heavily this morning.
The Skiing – The last few days has been really good. The fresh turns on the chairlift two days ago were awesome and yesterday was really good in the trees from the mid station to below Gulmarg. The snow is a fraction warmer today but there will be more epic turns to be found in the trees.
The Forecast – Looks like clearing tomorrow and staying fine over the weekend.
