Gulmarg Snow Report – Feb 6 2019

February 6 2019

The season so far.

Significant early snow graced the mountains in November and December to give us the best January base in many years.  This has been followed up by consistent moderate to heavy falls since mid-January and the forecast hints that the storms are going to continue for the short term at least.  (As I write this we have had about 40 cm in the village over the last 24 hrs and are on track for at least the same again for the next 24).

The Snow Plot.

The Snow Plot at the Highland Park sits at 2,700 metres so the amount of fresh snow recorded in the Gulmarg basin is only an indication of what has fallen on the upper mountain.  The higher elevation and exposure to wind can easily triple the amount that we record in the village.  And the base depth recorded at the hotel can also be roughly tripled as you move up the mountain to 4,000 metres.

Wednesday Feb 6 – Report

24 hours – 14 cm @ 7 am and another 25 cm until 3.30 pm.

Storm so far – 39 cm

Base Depth – 131 cm

The Weather – It is currently snowing very very hard!

The Skiing – After a beaut few day spell of fine weather and epic turns in the alpine, the storm has really hit and today is an awesome one of deep turns in the trees.

The Forecast – Looking like another day of big snowfall tomorrow before easing on Friday. Maybe another big one coming next week.  Stay tuned??
